In Ghana, Africa we see locals catching fish under the dry dirt. West African lungfish can live for up to 3 1/2 years without any food intake whatsoever. During this time period it behaves much like an estivating fish in that it buries itself in the mud and does not move until more favorable conditions occur.

The fish even adapt and grow a small pair of legs. When the fish are brought out of the ground…they are encased in a cocoon type casing.

Locals smoke the fish and they place it in soups…however…locals do say the fish taste like mud.
