Shark nets in New South Wales are on their way out. They’ll be pulled from the water one month early next year, as the state government moves away from the antiquated tactic, towards more hi-tech deterrents.
But since an outbreak of shark panic a century ago the nets have comforted generations of Australian swimmers, and removing them permanently will require a delicate balance between fear and logic. Adam Harvey reports.
