IIndia's ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) landscape has evolved significantly due to regulatory advancements, heightened investor interest, and corporate responsibility. SEBI's BRSR framework mandates ESG disclosures for top-tier listed companies, aligning with global standards and emphasizing environmental, social, and governance transparency. India's ambitious climate goals, such as achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030, have spurred green finance growth and bond issuances. The Companies Act of 2013 mandated CSR spending, shifting from voluntary philanthropy to structured accountability. Additionally, India's NGRBC and RBI's ESG guidelines further strengthened the framework. The government has launched renewable energy, electric mobility, and green hydrogen initiatives to advance sustainable development. Corporate strategies increasingly prioritize climate change, focusing on renewable energy, waste management, and water conservation. Through structured CSR and ESG efforts, India is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable development, enhancing transparency, accountability, and resilience, which collectively contribute to the country's global competitiveness in ESG standards. The future of ESG in India is promising, driven by regulatory evolution, technological advancements, investor pressure, and a focus on the circular economy. SEBI's BRSR framework will likely be further strengthened, and India may introduce stricter climate-focused regulations. Technology integration, particularly AI and blockchain, will improve ESG data accuracy and transparency. Growing investor pressure will drive demand for sustainable investments and ESG performance. A focus on the circular economy will promote resource efficiency and reduce waste. By embracing these trends, India can solidify its position as a global leader in sustainable development, attract foreign investment, and create a more resilient and equitable future.
