STORYLINE
Israel's caretaker prime minister Yair Lapid on Tuesday cast his ballot in Israel's fifth election in under four years.
"Vote correctly and vote for the state of Israel and the future of our children and the future in general," he said as he voted in Tel Aviv.
Voters are hoping that the elections will break the political deadlock that's paralysed the country.
The cost of living is surging, Israeli-Palestinian tensions are boiling over and Iran remains a central threat.
Still, the foremost issue in Tuesday's vote is once again the country's former leader Benjamin Netanyahu and his fitness to serve amid corruption charges.
Polls predict a stalemate between the main parties.
However, a powerful new player has threatened to shake things up.
Itamar Ben-Gvir, a leading far-right politician, has surged in opinion polls lately, and could hold the balance of power.
