In this episode Sheila chats to Professor Judith Mackay. Following a career in hospital medicine in Edinburgh, she went on to live and work in Hong Kong, where she became dedicated to fighting tobacco.
She highlights the need to address tobacco industry influence in order to make progress with smoking rates, and describes how establishing the WHO convention Article 5.3 was one of the greatest developments in tobacco control.
Judith is renown also for her dedication to women's health and her tireless efforts to combat tobacco use in low and middle-income countries. Frustrated by the tobacco industry targeting women to recruit new consumers of heir product, she focused on advancing tobacco control for women.
Her efforts have earned her an array of prestigious international awards, including the WHO Commemorative Medal, the TIME 100 recognition, and the BMJ Lifetime Achievement Award.
