We examine why so many war criminals find refuge in Australia.
We meet one of Australia's most notorious war crimes suspects -Dragan Vasiljkovic. He lives in Belgrade and he's homesick. He says: 'I do call Australia home...one day I will return back to Australia.' Vasiljkovic carries an Australian passport and the Australian Army trained him. He became a very well trained and capable commando officer who simply didn't abide by any rules. He's the new face on an old problem; how to deal with war criminals who've become Australian citizens. The problem is that Australia simply turns a blind eye. When former Nazi officer Konrad Kalejs flew out of the United Kingdom last month, the British resolve to get rid of him was matched by a worldwide perception of Australia's weakness in failing to prosecute him. Konrad Kalejs is just the most famous name on a long list of former Nazis who've found sanctuary in Australia.
