An overview of routing the effects to FOH and to the monitors (aux mixes) on a Presonus Series III console. Effects routing in sound reinforcement is very important. The amount of effects (reverb, delay, other) can make (or break) the event!
The amount of "effects" used in this video is for demonstration only. During events, and under normal circumstances, it is best to use a minimal amount of effects (i.e. reverb, delay) needed to bring-out the effect. The over-use of effects (reverb, delay - most common for FOH ) can draw attention away from the vocals and/or instrument where the affect is applied.
Also, effects should be muted when someone on stage (with a mic - the band leader, etc...) is talking between songs (i.e. talking about the next song, or getting the crowd going, etc...). Effects applied to a speaking vocal is very distracting.
