Trigeminal neuralgia meaning lies in its origin: pain in the trigeminal nerve, which is the fifth cranial nerve. It is diagnosed by shock-like pain in the face, on one side, either the right or left. Trigeminal nerve pain is one of the causes of one sided face pain.
The symptoms are jaw pain or cheek pain or even eye pain. Usually the pain starts after teeth extraction. The usual complaint is that the teeth pain started after wisdom tooth extraction or root canal treatment. Trigeminal Neuralgia is diagnosed clinically, based on symptoms, but an MRI is necessary to find the cause.
