There may come a time when it is difficult to conduct some of your business, and it would be convenient to allow a spouse or business partner to help you. By creating a power of attorney, you can legally entitle another person, known as an agent, to carry out certain financial functions or make medical decisions on your behalf. For example, you might be confined to a hospital for a few weeks after an injury or if you have an illness that doctors need to monitor. In that case, you could have your agent collect payments for your business and cash and deposit checks with your bank account.
