In eight provinces, three territories, and more than 150 municipalities across Canada, it is the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) that hands out speeding tickets, enforces bylaws, and tracks down thieves, thugs, and drug dealers.
But the Alberta government is moving forward with a study to see if the province can establish its own police force, rather than relying on contracting the Mounties for its policing services.
