Here is an example of Welles's use of deep focus cinematography taken from the sequence where Susan Alexander Kane attempts suicide. This is one of the scenes that Andre Bazin cites in his essay, "The Technique of Citizen Kane." Notice how all objects in the shot (foreground, middle ground, and background) are all in sharp focus. Unlike the effects of conventional continuity editing in classical Hollywood cinema, the deep focus cinematography and immobile camera does not force the audience to interpret the scene in one specific way.
