Survey methodologists have several methods at hand for evaluating survey questions, with cognitive interviewing being one of the most popular ones when examining respondents’ cognitive processes.
A method that evolved from cognitive interviews is cognitive online pretesting or web probing.
Web probing stands for implementing probing techniques derived from cognitive interviewing in web surveys.
In this webinar, Cornelia Neuert (GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences) discussed how to conduct cognitive interviews online.
After briefly introducing the general goals of pretesting and key aspects of cognitive interviewing, the webinar focused on the implementation of web probing - mainly how to implement probes in online surveys - and practical aspects that need to be considered when moving to the online mode.
About the speaker
Dr. Cornelia Neuert is a social scientist and head of the team Questionnaire Design & Evaluation at GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences.
She has a doctorate in sociology from the University of Mannheim.
Her research focuses on quantitative and qualitative methods for testing and evaluating survey questionnaires and questionnaire design.
She has been conducting numerous cognitive pretests for various research projects and survey programs.
