As part of our survey methodology seminar series - organised with City, University of London and NatCen Social Research - Cornelia Neuert (GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences) delivered a webinar on Wednesday 16 February 2022.
Survey methodologists have several methods at hand for evaluating survey questions, with cognitive interviewing being one of the most popular ones when examining respondents’ cognitive processes.
A method that evolved from cognitive interviews is cognitive online pretesting or web probing.
Web probing stands for implementing probing techniques derived from cognitive interviewing in web surveys.
In this webinar, Cornelia Neuert (GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences) discussed how to conduct cognitive interviews online.
After briefly introducing the general goals of pretesting and key aspects of cognitive interviewing, the webinar focused on the implementation of web probing - mainly how to implement probes in online surveys - and practical aspects that need to be considered when moving to the online mode.
