So many people got this wrong after the experiment in my yesterday's video ([ Ссылка ]). It seems there is a lot of misconception and wrong knowledge out there. I explain the difference between Bypass and Blocking diodes in all details in this video and also proof in another experiment, that solar panels don't act as diode.
Bypass Diodes: mounted in solar panel connection boxes and will bypass this specific panel if it gets heavily shaded. This diode does not prevent the current from flowing in reverse through the panel (see experiment in this video)
Blocking Diodes: mounted in series of a string of panels to prevent reverse flow of current if one full solar panel string is heavily shaded. This diode does prevent current from flowing in reverse.
Solar panels do not act like a diode. This is a wrong statement made many times. A solar panel acts like a Zener diode and allows current from flowing in reverse above a certain voltage (see experiment in this video). If you're now asking what a Zener Diode is, here is a very good video with explanation of basic electronic functions from @SimplyElectronicsOfficial: [ Ссылка ]
