During the dress rehearsal, the one watched and voted on by the national juries, the Polish entrant, Edyta Gorniak, performed half of her entry in English which broke the rules. Despite this, EBU was allowed her to compete in the live show, as only six national delegations formally petitioned for Poland to be disqualified. Eurovision rules required a majority of delegations - 13 in this case.
