Here is a trick my grandpa uses to store and preserve cabbage in the ground and have garden fresh cabbage throughout the winter. Not only does it keep the cabbage fresh, it actually makes it sweeter. We also share a simple and delicious family coleslaw recipe.

One clarification: This method of storing cabbage may not work on all varieties or in all climates. We are in a cold climate and use cold variety cabbages. Also, this method works best with a solid variety of cabbage, with the leaves tight together (instead of a loose leaf cabbage). It also helps to have a larger variety of cabbage because you end up pealing away a couple layers of leaves.
