Today, October 17, we join the world in celebrating the first International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage, proclaimed by UNESCO!
This day recognizes the importance of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in enriching humanity and celebrates cultural diversity through living heritage.
From oral traditions to performing arts, and social practices to traditional craftsmanship, ICH represents the heartbeat of cultures worldwide.
Jamaica proudly holds two UNESCO inscriptions: The Maroon Heritage of Moore Town (2008) and Reggae Music (2018), with hopes for a third—Pilgrimage to Watt Town—under consideration for 2024.
Join us as we celebrate Jamaica’s living heritage and continue to preserve these invaluable cultural treasures. 🇯🇲
