Only 6.5 km from Bela Palanka is located Divljana with its natural beauty and attractions that offers. One of them is old oak, with more than 1000 years. It has the protection under the state and arouses great interest among people who come to see the oldest tree in the Balkans. It is believed that it was planted by the people of Macedonian and Bulgarian Emperor Samuil.
The hole in the tree trunk is believed to be the result of lightning strike. However, the locals witness a different truth. The land where the oak grows is the property of the Church of the Holy Trinity. Until a few years ago, the villagers has been commemorated the three-day feast of the Spirits, here in the same place where the oak is. The cross was carved on the oak. But, since the feast stoped isn’t being celebrating any more, at the place of the cross, a bulge appeared.
Across the street grows one more oak. It is over 500 years old. Many locals think that the bioenergy with healing power lays under its treetop, so people often come under the tree, standing there for a while hoping for the miraculous effect of the oak’s energy.
The monastery of St. Dimitri was built in the late 13th and early 14th century.
