Jakarta to Bandung High-Speed Train Now in Service. Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on 2nd October 2023 inaugurated the 142-kilometer (88.23-mile) Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR), the first HSR in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. Widodo launched the official operation of the Jakarta-Bandung HSR at Halim Station in Jakarta.
It is Southeast Asia's first high-speed train. The Chinese-made bullet train named "Whoosh" is built to take more than 600 people to and from Jakarta and Bandung in West Java in 45 minutes and is part of China's Belt and Road infrastructure initiative.
Its maximum speed of the train could reach 350 kilometres per hour. The railway connects Jakarta with Bandung, the heavily populated capital of West Java province, and will cut travel time between the cities from the current three hours to about 45 minutes.
