#PlaneSpotting #MumbaiAirport #SingaporeAirlines #Airbus #A380
Since 1st July, 2017 Singapore Airlines operates their Airbus A350-900 XWB on flight “SQ422/421” from Changi, Singapore to Mumbai, India.
Previously SQ’s old Boeing 777-200ERs operated on this route. But on 2nd and 3rd January 2020, Singapore Airlines deployed its Airbus A380 Super Jumbo on this route. 10 years old airframe 9V-SKK operated SQ’s first daylight A380 flight to Mumbai on 2nd Jan.
11 years old airframe 9V-SKH operated on 3rd Jan. She became the first ever Code F aircraft to depart from Mumbai Airport’s Runway 32.
Singapore Airlines had ordered 24 Airbus A380s. 19 A380s are currently active in its fleet and 5 older airframes are already retired by the airline.
SQ A380s are powered by 4x RR Trent 900 Engines which cost US$25m, weigh 6,246 kg and produce up to 84,000 lbf of thrust each.
Since Etihad Airways stopped operating their A380s to Mumbai Airport, its has become extremely rare to spot an A380 in daylight in Mumbai. Looks like New Year brought us some luck. :)
