At Least 49 People Killed, 50 Injured Due To Kuwait Building Fire
At least 49 people including over 40 Indians have been killed and another 50 injured after a fire broke out in a building housing workers in Kuwait's Mangaf city. The fire broke in a kitchen of the six-storey building which had 195 people, all from the same company. As per the officials, all the 49 workers died due to smoke inhalation while sleeping. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended condolences and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of those who died. The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke to his Kuwaiti counterpart Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya and took stock of the situation. Kuwait's Deputy PM Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah accused the building owner of violations and greed, saying those factors contributed towards the unfortunate incident.
