Kegel exercises are popular exercises for strengthening the pelvic floor. As effective they may be, they are detrimental to an overactive pelvic floor. Dr. med. Dr. phil. Stefan Buntrock, urologist from Göttingen, explains in this video on UroChannel the benefits and dangers of Kegels. As a rule, men don't have a weak pelvic floor. If at all, it is overactive. Therefore, it is advisable to get a proper exam by a pelvic floor therapist before starting any pelvic floor exercises. This is even more important, as many men don't know how to activate their pelvic floor muscles. Many contract their abdominal muscles and buttocks. If you are suffering from pain in your perineal area, in the urethra, the testicles, urinary urgency, erectile dysfunction and burning after ejaculation, you should definitely get checked first, or things may worsen with Kegel exercises.
