Literature in translation occupies a notoriously tiny niche in mainstream publishers’ lists and the book market, even in multilingual societies – around three per cent. Yet there is exciting work being done across many languages and across a range of platforms. Drawing on diverse experiences from the book trade – publishing houses, translation agencies, literary magazines, micro-publishing enterprises, online websites – this conversation considers the commissioning, editorial practices, economics, problems and delights of creating literature without borders.
Speakers: Azizah Zakaria, Jérôme Bouchaud, Khalid Jaafar, Minh Bui Jones, John McGlynn
