The rise in the number of COVID cases is now becoming a cause of concern for the entire country once again. Earlier, reports of Maharashtra and Kerala being the worst hit were coming to light, but as more and more states started reporting a surge, the COVID alarm has sent signs of a second wave. Punjab too has now become one of the worst-hit COVID states with close to 2,000 fresh cases being reported in the last 24 hours. The death rate in the state is the highest since the first wave. The death rate has now climbed to 3.2% this year. Amid the spike in the COVID cases, the Punjab government has announced the extension of the night curfew.
