Today we're listening to a pair of Chorus Ensemble pedals. The first is the original chorus pedal, the iconic Boss (CE-1) and then it's the MN3007 (CE-7) clone made by the friendly blokes down under at PastFX. There are a lot of mods you can do to the CE-7 but I'm playing it straight out of the box in the stock setting. Unlike the 1970's CE-1 that uses a 512 stage bucket brigade chip, the CE-7 uses an obsolete NOS Panasonic / Matsushita 1024 stage BBD MN3007 - hence the name.
I've set the controls identical and played a few clean riffs from notable CE-1 user John Frusciante and a little something from Mr. Jimmy Page. Does it pass the test? You be the judge and let us know in the comments below.
This demo was made with a 1997 Fender Voodoo Strat loaded with Seymour Duncan Texas Hot Antiquities, 9-46 Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky's plugged into an EVH 5150III EL34 on the green channel, through a Two Notes CaptorX and EVH 2x12 cab. Nothing special mic wise, just an iPhone 12 Pro on a tripod.
