The British Council #TheClimateConnection held a video competition for schools on the topic of Climate Action.
The well deserved winner is Africa Andinet No.1 Primary School, Ethiopia with this fantastic project: Our Climate Hero.
"Our Climate Hero is Sileshi Demessie. He is very famous in Ethiopia for being a singer and for cleaning up the environment. Our names are Fenet, Leul, Hawi, Danawit and Fekadu. We are a singing school and our teacher Elsabet is a song teacher. We live in the Piazza area in the middle of Addis Ababa. Our school is called Africa Andinet. It is in a market area. It’s very busy and there are sometimes a lot of waste materials everywhere. Some years ago Selashi cleaned up our area and made it beautiful. He added plants and made it green In our video we show you how we are using waste materials like plastic bottles to start our own green area inside our school, with plants growing in the cut bottles. Selashi also taught us how to sing different songs and inspired us to sing. We love the song ‘This is our World’. It tells people how to look after their environment and care for our planet. In the video we sit in the playground of our school and we sing This is our World with Selashi. You can see how the famous singer Sileshi who cares for the environment influences us to clean our surrounding and grow plants and sing."
