The Nakiri is your dedicated veggie knife. Designed with a flatter belly to the blade, it makes full contact with the board once it has cut through which means no straggly bits of lettuce or carrot on your board. It also has a fantastic balance where the handle offsets the boxy blade shape, making it extra comfortable for lengthy chopping jobs.
Some people confuse the Nakiri for a cleaver, which is understandable given the similarity in shape. The main differences between the two are weight (cleavers are much heavier and thicker), and sharpening angle (cleavers have a shallow cutting angle making the edge more resilient at the cost of sharpness). The lighter and sharper Nakiri is better suited for delicate work, where as a cleaver is all about heavy chopping.
