Even if your preamp has "enough" clean gain, a mic booster is an upgrade that will change what your microphone and preamp can do for you.
The test results speak for themselves. You don't only need a mic booster to add gain when using a hungry microphone like the SM7B or RE20, you will benefit from having one available, even when gain is not an issue.
