Appointment cancellations are a huge problem for physiotherapists because they end up costing time and money, while taking away opportunities to help patients. In this video, I talk about the importance of communication in getting your patients to attend their appointments consistently.
In my own physiotherapy business, I had a particular patient who often canceled at the last minute. After finding out early one morning that, once again, this patient had canceled on me, I decided to take a hard look at exactly how these cancelations were adding up and what I could do about them.
It turns out, appointment cancellations were costing me $2000 dollars a week! Fortunately, I found a way to solve the problem, and it came down to embracing the importance of communication.
You see, one of the best things I did for myself was change my thinking. It’s easy to think that patients cancel because you’re charging too much. But that is not the case. Most physiotherapists charge too little rather than too much. People don’t go to you for the price, they go because of the value you offer them.
When patients cancel, it’s often due to a lack of communication. You know that you’re qualified to provide high quality services to your patients, but do they know that? When you talk to them, are you conveying the confidence that you possess in yourself? More importantly, can you tell if your patients feel confident in your abilities to help them?
Understanding the importance of communication is the key to reducing your appointment cancellations. By conveying confidence, clarity, and certainty, you can ensure that your patients feel the same confidence that you feel, and that they trust you to help them.
