Surakarta or more popularly known as Solo, a city on the Indonesian island of Java, might be less touristy as compared to Yogyakarta.

However, over the years it has grown into a busy and sizeable city with wide streets, vibrant local markets, and a very apparent Javanese cultural heritage.
