US President Joe Biden told a reporter on Thursday that air strikes in Yemen by the US-led Red Sea coalition will continue despite acknowledging that they are not stopping the Houthis.
The UK and the US have repeatedly warned the Houthis against attacking vessels passing through the Red Sea, a vital shipping route, in protest against Israel’s war in Gaza.
The attacks on the commercial routes in one of the world’s most important shipping lanes have in some cases forced shipping firms to suspend operations or take a much longer and more expensive journey around Africa.
Since Saturday the coalition has launched multiple air strikes against Houthi targets following a spate of attacks on shipping vessels in the Red Sea.
