During the Civil War, Corinth was located where vital rail lines crossed connecting the North and the South. Its capture was a prime objective of Union forces and the Battle of Corinth became one of the fiercest and bloodiest of the war. More than 200 generals and 300,000 soldiers were in the Corinth area from 1861-1865.
