Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher and one of the central thinkers of the Enlightenment. Kant's comprehensive and systematic works in epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, and aesthetics made him one of the most influential figures in Western New Age philosophy.

Kant rejected dogmatic way of knowing and supposed that instead of it should be based on method of critical philosophy, the essence of which consists in research of reason itself, limits which may be reached by man with reason, and study of separate ways of human knowing

Kant spent his whole life in Königsberg (now Kaliningrad). He literally never left the city. Although the sea was only an hour away, he never saw it. He had so automated his habits that his neighbors joked, "You can check your watch by it."
