24 June 1945 - Marking the defeat of Nazi Germany, 200 captured flags are paraded by the Seperate Operational Purpose Division of the NKVD on Moscow's red square.
The parade of flags, and their discarding upon the ground, was the idea of Soviet Dictator Joseph Stalin as a show of contempt and disdain.
The flags themselves, over 200, had been captured, predominantly, from museums in Dresden and Berlin, where they were stored on the orders of Adolf Hitler for fear they might be caught in battle. The prize flag, was probably the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler. Today, the flags are kept in museums across the former Soviet Union.
