In Turkey it is called Simit. In Greece it is called Koulóuria.
And Gevrek in Macedonia.
It is most popular in the country of origin since the Ottomans.
That is Turkey, where it is believed to be invented.
Second most popular is the Middle East.
It is second in popularity in the Middle East only to Pita Bread.
But now we find these breads all over Europe too.
Italy known for its fine Artisan of breads has a style all its own too. Let alone France.
In Turkey street vendors walk the streets balancing a 100 or so on top of thier heads selling to the locals and tourists.
Fresh hot, and aromatic for blocks!
Now we can make these right in our own kitchens just as they do.
Enjoy!
