Filmmakers rarely show audiences two women having a conversation (or eating desserts). In this scene from The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) Kathy Baker and Emily Blunt discuss the formation of a book club while eating desserts. Although the inclusion of a conversation between two women may not sound like anything to get excited about it is actually somewhat rare in film. This enjoyable romantic comedy scores well for women’s presence and voice (five significant female characters) and includes much congeniality and affection between women, including intergenerational congeniality.
