Rawnsley Park Station in the Flinders Ranges in South Australia is one of our favourite places to camp when we travel to the Flinders Ranges. It is adjacent to Flinders Ranges National Park. During our stay in this trip we drove some exhilarating 4x4 tracks which gave us breathtaking mountain views.
This trip was done back in 2019. Lately, due to the increasing number of travels within Australia by domestic tourists, many enquiries have come through about Rawnsley Park Station. So we decided to re-upload the video for the benefit of those who may not have seen this when it was first aired.
There are many places to stay in the Flinders Ranges. Accommodation ranging from bush camping all the way up to ultra luxury. There is something to suite every pallet. For those who are 4x4 enthusiasts and love to get in with nature then the Flinders is one amazing place to visit.
Rawnsley Park Station is just off the main road leading up to Wilpena Pound. Located at the southern tip of Flinders Ranges National Park it is a perfect place to base your self. From here you can explore most of this region.
The station offers powered and unpowered camp sites. Facilities are also available for those pulling caravans. Ablution facilities, a communal kitchen, a shop with basic supplies (including firewood) and fuel is also available. If you are looking for that remote feeling, yet within easy reach to the facilities, then we would recommend taking up the bush camping option.
The station also has a 4x4 track which requires a fee to be paid at the office. Upon paying this fee you are given access to a key which opens up a number of gates within the property the track will be passing through. The first section of this track is accessible by all wheel drive vehicles. At the end of this section there is an exit track to get you back to the main road. Continuing on on the track requires 4wd as the climb gets steep requiring low range activation. This second part of the track simply takes your breath away and once you get to the top of the mountain you can park off and enjoy the 360 degree view of the ranges. Make sure to bring along some snacks and your favourite beverage.
We hope this video will inform and inspire you to go exploring in the Flinders Ranges. Should you require more information please write to us at duncan@overlandjournals.com
