Let’s go to bunny island!! 🐰🇯🇵
As a bunny owner and someone who adores these little creatures, I’ve been dreaming of this remote island in southern Japan for at least ten years. 🌴🐰🇯🇵
Okunoshima island is only about two kilometers wide and the nearest large city is Hiroshima. From there, it is a 25-minute Shinkansen trip northeast to Mihara. After that, you take the local train to Tadanoumi, which takes around 20 minutes.
Finally, you need to take a 15-minute walk to the port and take the 15-minute ferry ride to the island. It is possible to do it as a day trip but you also have the option to stay overnight at KYUKAMURA OHKUNOSHIMA 休暇村大久野島, which is a the only hotel on the island. You can also go camping on the island.
There are no shops on the island apart from the hotel souvenir shop, and if you want to have lunch there, you’ll have to rely on the hotel cafeteria. That’s why it might be a good idea to stop by the family mart in tadanoumi before taking the ferry. You can also not buy rabbit food on the island and you’re not supposed to feed them anything else. You can buy rabbit food at the souvenir shop at tadanoumi port. 🐰🇯🇵
This island is perfect for a weekend trip or one-night getaway but if you really want to maximize it, stay for two nights so you can get one full day on the island. It is a very beautiful and unique place that is also very relaxing as opposed to all the big cities that tourists tend to visit. Apart from the bunnies, the island has quite the history related to WW2 and the natural surroundings are stunning and perfect for hiking. Needless to say, it is a fascinating place to visit.
