Fadi al-Wahidi’s mother has announced she will be going on hunger strike despite having cancer. She said she will refuse her treatment as well as food and water until her son is allowed to travel abroad for medical care.
In October, journalist Fadi al-Wahidi was shot in the neck by Israeli forces while covering the ground invasion of the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, despite wearing protective gear identifying him as a member of the press.
Despite numerous international appeals, including from three media freedom organisations, Israeli authorities have refused to allow al-Wahidi to leave Gaza for treatment.
