Over the last two decades, a Global Polio Eradication Initiative has cut the number of polio cases worldwide from 350,000 per year in 1988 to about one thousand in 2004. The goal is to certify all regions of the world polio-free by the end of 2008. The success of the polio campaign depends on delivering vaccines to children living in these hard-to-reach areas. In the vast and dry lands of Niger, reaching children in the migration corridors used by nomads poses major logistical challenges.
