The family tradition of growing vines and wine production, according to the records and memories of our ancestors, dates back to before the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. A lot of time has passed since then. People and habits have changed, but the love for the vineyard was in the hearts of our ancestors, it is in ours and it will be in future generations of our descendants. The grape varieties have changed, the ways of cultivating the vineyards, the mechanization has done its thing, as well as the technology of wine production itself, which has been improved and modernized, but what has not changed in our country is the effort and huge work that, from year to year, our family invests in the processing of vineyards and nurturing the final products in the cellars so as to offer quality wine varieties to lovers of good wine. Deda Đura is one of the oldest winegrowers and winemakers in Sremski Karlovci, and as some still call him a "legend", behind him are a vineyard and a cellar all in life.
It is difficult to move, but with the help of the point and the grandmother of Nada's support (both physical and moral), she manages to go and work in the vineyard, but she does not give up. Then the pain in the arms and legs is forgotten and anything is possible. Vineyard is a cure for all children's diseases. Our wines are produced under the watchful eye of grandfather Đurin's eye and under the supervision of oenologists and wine experts from Riesling grapes, župljanka, vranac, the famous "grandfather Đurin" Frankovka, merlot, old varieties - plemenka and slankamenka and other species. Cellar "Probus" is a producer of several types of brandy. The peak of traditional wine production is the widely known bermet, whose recipe is kept as a family secret and passed from generation to generation in Karlovac families.
The name of our podum comes from the name of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius Probus.
Marcus Aurelius Probus was born in Sirmium (today's Sremska Mitrovica) back in 232. After the victory over Emperor Florian, he himself became emperor, recognized by the Roman Senate. Due to the lack of data on his wars, history remembers Emperor Probus as a ruler who, by planting a vine, spread wine culture throughout the entire territory of the Empire. Legend has it that in 282 he was killed by his soldiers in one of the vineyards because he allegedly forced them to perform civic duties such as planting and cultivating vineyards in peacetime.
