The European Parliament has voted for tougher artificial intelligence rules, in draft legislation that could become the world's first sweeping directive on such systems. The rules intend to regulate AI according to the level of risk, where the greater the risk to an individual's rights or health, the greater the system's obligation. The EU's proposed high-risk list includes AI in critical infrastructure, education and migration management. Lawmakers will have discussions with member countries before the draft rules can become legislation. They hope to strike an agreement by end-2023.
