Yet, that's the reality for the world's poorest country, as estimated by a recent report. Haiti, once the wealthiest colony in the Americas, is now the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with over half of its population living below the World Bank's poverty line. Foreign intervention, political instability, and natural disasters have all contributed to Haiti's troubled path to development. The COVID-19 pandemic has only made matters worse, with low- and middle-income countries facing significant challenges in financing sustainable development.
