In 1516, the German Beer Purity Act was the first law that mandated the use of hops in beer. Brew makers and the general public knew that hops was not good for them, yet societal rulers forced this law upon the public that made traditional healing unhopped beers illegal. The estrogenic effects of hops make people easier to control which is beneficial to the ruling elite and why it was done.
