There might not be a monster from Dungeons and Dragons more iconic than the Mind Flayer, an interdimensional conqueror with a pension for eating brains. Though they are currently serving as antagonists in the video game Baldur's Gate 3, mind flayers have been with D&D since almost the beginning, first appearing in TSR's Creature Feature for 1st Edition. Illithids (commonly known as mind flayers) are monstrous humanoid aberrations with psionic powers. Illithids are well known for making thralls out of other intelligent creatures, as well as feasting on their brains. Dungeons & Dragons (commonly abbreviated as D&D or DnD) is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game (RPG) originally designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. It was first published in 1974 by Tactical Studies Rules, Inc. (TSR) and has been published by Wizards of the Coast (WotC, now a subsidiary of Hasbro) since 1997. D&D's publication is commonly recognized as the beginning of modern role-playing games and the role-playing game industry.
