We're here live from Australia's largest mining conference, Diggers and Dealers in Kalgoorlie, and Australia is playing a pivotal role in the world's green transition, particularly in the exploration and development of rare earths projects. China is the world leader for producing rare earths, but Australia is ramping up to challenge China's dominance. One company that's quickly emerging as a producer of rare earth minerals is Hastings. The company is developing a rare earths project in Western Australia, which could have a mine life of up to at least 17 years. I'm joined by Hastings Chief Operating Officer Tim Gilbert. Tim, can you start in Western Australia? Where is this project up to? Well, thank you for the opportunity initially. The project's moving ahead very, very quickly. We're in the situation now that we have declared reserves, we have an agreement to build the processor. We are just waiting on the last approvals from a financial point of view, and at that stage we'll be able to commit to commence construction of the process plant. Can you tell us what makes rare earths so attractive right now? Rare earths demand is driven by many, many things as we move into a new realm of electric vehicles as an example. One of the biggest growth opportunities going on is in things like robots, and obviously your mobile phone. Your mobile phone is going to have up to 20 magnets in it just to make it keep on working, so it's a huge demand that's coming online. What can your investors look forward to in news flow in the next six months? I think the next six months for us is all about getting that financial investment decision and then commencing construction on site up at Yanjibarra. Once that construction starts, we'll be about 18 months of construction, and we'll be a producing heavy and rare earth producer. Well, that sounds really exciting, and thank you so much for speaking to us today, and good luck with it, Autumn. Thank you so much. Pleasure to be here. Now, just to recap what we heard, Hastings is working towards being a major producer of rare earths, with a project which will likely go into production next year. With a mine life of at least 17 years, it's a big project and a strategic opportunity for Australia to be a major challenger to China's dominance.
