This is another video in my series “New Forest Walks” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I visit the pretty village of Emery Down (near Lyndhurst) & explore the surrounding countryside.
My 4 mile circular route starts & finishes at Swan Green – a lovely open area of ground to the East of the village looked over by delightful thatched cottages & The Swan Inn. My main objective is to follow a straight path that was established in 1725 by Charles, 3rd Duke of Bolton (then Lord Warden of the New Forest) known as Cut Walk.
After finding the start of Cut Walk, I enjoy a wonderful stroll through woodland towards the tiny settlement of Allum Green where I meet a lovely resident who kindly provides me with some fascinating facts about the history of one of the houses. I then take a short detour to visit the Roman Bridge (one of the most photographed bridges in the New Forest) before heading North through more woodland, back to Emery Down where I explore the pub, alms houses & church.
