In response to an attack on its security forces deployed in the region, US on Nov 13 attacked assets of Houthis in Yemen. The US carried out multiple airstrikes against multiple Houthi weapons storage facilities within Houthi-controlled areas of region. The airstrike was in response to Houthi attacks on commercial, U.S., and coalition vessels in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait and Gulf of Aden. Since Nov 08, the U.S. has carried out multiple strikes against Iranian-backed Houthi targets in Yemen, Syria. Both U.S. Air Force & Navy assets, including F-35C fighter aircraft, were involved in the strikes, informed Pentagon. Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder informed about the U.S attacks and warned Houthis of further attack. U.S. strike aims to degrade ability of Iranian-backed groups to plan and launch future attacks on U.S and coalition forces. Houthis are part of armed group in Yemen backed by Iran that also includes Hezbollah, Hamas and syia militia groups in Syria. Houthis have targeted commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since November 2023. Houthi is also a part of ‘axis of resistance’ in the ongoing war b/w Israel and Hamas in support of Palestinians.
