Quarantine centres are a crucial part of the Government's strategy to prevent and control COVID-19. They help us achieve "early identification", “early isolation" and "early treatment". We are taking action to increase isolation and quarantine facilities, so that Hong Kong is better placed to brave this new wave of the epidemic.
800 quarantine units at Penny's Bay have been opened for operation since July 18, while another 700 units will be ready by the end of September. What's more, 2,000 more units will be built by the end of this year. That means in total, 3,500 quarantine units will be provided at Penny's Bay.
Meanwhile, the Hospital Authority has set up community isolation facilities at Lei Yue Mun Park and will do the same at AsiaWorld-Expo. The facilities serve to isolate and rehabilitate patients with mild and stable symptoms. A temporary quarantine centre for elders in residential care homes will also be set up in AsiaWorld-Expo.
For inbound travellers who have to observe compulsory quarantine for 14 days, the Government will provide information on the availability of hotel accommodation. We will also continue to rent hotels for people to rest in, as they await their results after taking the virus test upon arrival in Hong Kong.
