An IBM mainframe processor, such as a z14, z15, or any other generation of zArchitecture processor, is known as a CEC. It is typically the most expensive resource in the IBM z/OS environment. For this reason, CEC utilization is a key measurement to always understand, especially if you want to better measurement MSU usage. This video explore IBM z CEC utilization for General Purpose Processors (GCPs), but the same principles apply to zIIP processors. This measurement is collected by PR/SM and stored in the SMF 70 records by measurement products such as RMF and CMF. The measurement is reported by IBM zArchitecture machine, and broken down by LPAR (Logical Partition).
