The *Brahmaputra Riverfront Development (BRFD) project* is nearing completion, with its inauguration planned for March 2025. With a total budget of *Rs. 327.31 crore*, the project is funded through State Share *(Rs. 121.89 crore), Central Share (Rs. 132.11 crore)* and the Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL) budget for the financial year 2024-25 *(Rs. 113 crore)*. As of now, 84 per cent of the physical work is complete, and 77 per cent of the financial progress has been achieved.
The development covers a 1.2 km stretch, extending from Sati Radhika Prasanti Udyan (Kacharighat) to the DC Bungalow. It includes redevelopment of the Uzan Bazaar fish market, creation of a parking facility with a green belt, construction of entry and exit gates symbolizing Northeast India’s eight states, boundary walls with guard rooms, electrical illumination and landscaping. Beautification initiatives like themed gardens—touch garden, fragrance garden, edible garden, zen garden and sound garden—are also part of the ongoing project.

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah inspected the site on December 26, reviewing the progress and addressing key concerns highlighted by the Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL) board. Lakshmanan S, Secretary of Industries and Commerce, noted minor issues such as the development of Sati Radhika Udyan and parking areas, temporary view-cutters with bamboo and creepers from Module-2 to Module-12, shifting of the fish market in Uzan Bazaar, and the installation of PA systems, CCTV and allied electrical works across the 1.2 km stretch.
Upon completion, the Brahmaputra riverfront is expected to become a major tourist attraction, showcasing the region's culture and natural beauty.
